Man Dies in Clarksburg Collision

A 20-year-old Clarksburg man was killed in a traffic collision on Snowden Farm Parkway shortly after 1:00 pm on Sunday afternoon.

Montgomery County Police Department’s Collision Reconstruction Unit is investigating the fatal vehicle collision that occurred Sunday, June 16 in Clarksburg which took the life of Ian Matthew McKenna, age 20, of Clarksburg.

According to police, MCPD and MCFRS were called the scene of a two-vehicle crash on Snowden Farm Parkway in the area of Clarksburg Square Road at approximately 1:09 pm, where a Mazda 3, driven by McKenna collided with an Audi S6, driven by Mario Orlando Sanchez, 43, of the 22500 block of Winding Woods Way in Clarksburg. Police said that McKenna was driving west and Sanchez was traveling east on Snowden Farm Parkway.

For reasons still under investigation, the Audi crossed the double yellow center line on Snowden Farm Parkway colliding with the Mazda in the area of Clarksburg Square Road.

According to police, the driver and sole occupant of the Mazda, McKenna, was declared deceased at the scene. The driver and sole occupant of the Audi, Sanchez, was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Snowden Farm Parkway was closed to traffic between Clarksburg Crossing Road and Clarksburg Square Drive for most of the afternoon as Montgomery County Fire Rescue attempted to extricate one of the drivers who had become trapped in the vehicle, and Collision Reconstruction detectives worked to investigate the cause of the fatal collision.
