Rehab 2 Perform Set to Launch Third Location

May 9, 2019

Rehab 2 Perform, the award-winning physical therapy and rehabilitation center with a location in Germantown, is expanding yet again. R2P is set to launch its third location later this month in Mount Airy, owner Dr. Josh Funk announced this week.

The Mount Airy location will join the likes of Frederick, where Rehab 2 Perform (R2P) began in December 2014, and Germantown, which opened in October 2017. R2P3, as Funk likes to call it, will be located in the Twin Ridge Business Center on 1202 Rising Ridge Road, just off Route 144 and roughly a mile off Interstate 70. Funk hopes to open the third location by Memorial Day weekend.

Since Dr. Funk established his vision of innovative physical therapy and rehabilitation in 2014, R2P has almost doubled every year in revenue, staff, and clients served. This leads to R2P’s next phase: serving the Carroll and Howard County communities, while bolstering an already large presence in Frederick and Montgomery County.

“We’re getting limited in regards to how many people we can serve in Frederick County, just given we have one centralized location in Frederick County,” Funk said. “We saw a lot of what we liked to see in an area in regards to Mount Airy. Very, very community-focused, a high amount of people who are physically active. A big youth sports scene, as well as a lot of projected growth along the I-70 corridor and to the west toward Ijamsville. Overall, it’s an area that reminds us a lot of Frederick and we are excited to open and start making an impact.”

R2P3 will be 5,000 square feet, the exact same size as the Frederick location, and more of a rectangular layout, allowing for ample space and connectivity. Funk has a special color scheme, too: scarlet and gray to pay homage to “where he first got this idea” at Ohio State University, his alma mater.

Dr. Zach Baker, who has been at R2P since its inception, will oversee the Mount Airy location in a regional director role. Baker has been an instrumental part of R2P’s growth, fueling the creative and relational approach Funk strives for.

“[Zach] has been a steady, consistent presence and has offered tremendous insight along the way to allow us to get to where we are today,” Funk said. “He was willing to take a chance [on us] and pretty much quit his [previous] job to become our first employee. He’s been with us ever since. He’s been through the ups and been through the downs, and we would not be where we are today without him.”

Baker is also very familiar with the Mount Airy area. He’s a South Carroll graduate and he currently resides in Taylorsville, which is seven miles from Mount Airy.

“Mount Airy, it’s a very natural fit, because there’s a lot of overlap and synergy with the Frederick community,” Baker said. “The new location gives us an opportunity to continue with some of the communities we already have a very strong footprint in - the Linganore, Oakdale, and Urbana communities. I’m excited to start getting into the surrounding areas a little bit outside of our reach, just because of the driving distance in Frederick: southern Carroll County, northern Howard County, and even northern Montgomery County.”

Along with Baker, Dr. Caleb Fatzinger and Matt Cornell will also work at the Mount Airy location.

“Those are people who know the fabric of this company,” said Funk, who will also be periodically working in the Mount Airy location. “We want to make sure the people in that new location are very, very familiar with how we do things, our culture, and will ensure a certain level of brand and service consistency.”

R2P accepts all major medical insurances with physical therapy and rehabilitation functioning as its primary services. Funk said R2P will be expanding in “more preventive and wellness-oriented services” in 2019, targeting a broader audience.

Last year, R2P had a 95 percent Net Promoter Score, which placed it in the upper 5 percent of its industry. R2P was also named Clarksburg Chamber of Commerce Small Business of the Year in 2018 and ranked No. 233 on Entrepreneur Magazine’s 360 Most Entrepreneurial Companies. Earlier in it’s history, after being recognized as the Frederick Chamber of Commerce Emerging Small Business of the Year in 2016, R2P turned around in 2017 to win the Frederick Chamber of Commerce Small Business of the Year (Small Size). Funk credits Rehab 2 Perform’s success to his loyal staff, the Frederick County Chamber of Commerce, and mentors Dave Posin and Danny Farrar, both of whom founded SoldierFit.
