Darnestown Road Collision Leaves Driver in Critical Condition

Montgomery County Police and fire units were called to the intersection of Riffleford Road and Darnestown Road/MD-28 on Saturday morning for a collision which left the driver pinned in the vehicle with life-threatening injuries.

   On Saturday, April 20, at approximately 8:06 am officers from the Montgomery County Department of Police – 1st District, and Montgomery County Fire Rescue personnel responded to the area of Darnestown Road and Riffleford Road for the report of a single-vehicle collision with the driver entrapped. After a prolonged extrication, the driver was transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries, said police.

 

   According to police, the preliminary investigation revealed that a 2008 Lexus IS300 was traveling eastbound on Darnestown Road approaching the intersection with Riffleford Road. For reasons still under investigation, the vehicle left the roadway and struck a metal traffic-light support pole on the driver’s side door. The driver remains in critical condition.

  MCPD had Darnestown Road closed for most of Saturday morning as the Collision Reconstruction Unit worked to investigate the cause of the crash. The road reopened at about 12:30 pm.
