Tornado Watch Issued for Germantown Area
The National Weather Service has declared a Tornado Watch for Germantown and all of Montgomery County as well as all surrounding counties and the District of Columbia until 12:00 am midnight, tonight, Friday, April 19. The Tornado Watch includes 13 counties in Maryland, including, Frederick, Washington, Carroll, Baltimore, Anne Arundel, Howard and Prince Georges counties, and 34 counties in Virginia.
Be alert for rapidly changing weather conditions and be prepared to take shelter if a warning is issued. Thunderstorms will likely develop this afternoon.
A Tornado Watch means that conditions are right for the possible formation of tornadic activity. If a Tornado Warning is issued for your area seek shelter immediately.
The National Weather Service has also issued A Flash Flood Watch for the entire region. Showers and thunderstorms with heavy rain are expected to overspread the region by Friday afternoon and continue through Friday evening before departing late Friday night. Training storms and multiple rounds of heavy rain may result in rainfall amounts which could exceed 3 inches locally. Flash flooding is possible, particularly in the urban areas.
A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions may develop that lead to flash flooding. Flash flooding is a very dangerous situation.
