Car Wash Leads to Damascus Fire

April 4, 2019

A resident was doing some spring cleaning on an automobile and accidentally set the car on fire as it sat in the driveway in Damascus Thursday morning, according to fire officials.
Montgomery County Fire Rescue Service units were called to the 10700 block of Middleboro Drive in Damascus at about 8:20 am on Thursday, April 4 for the report of a fully engulfed car fire.

According to Pete Piringer, senior spokesman for MCFRS, the fire was the result of a person who was attempting to dry the vehicle with a heat gun. The fire grew so hot it extended to the exterior of the single-family house but did not extend into the home. Piringer said no injuries were reported among the three occupants at home at the time of the fire. The damage to the house was not extensive enough to displace the residents, according to Piringer, but the fire did do about $100,000 worth of damage to the house and attached garage.
