Damascus Resident Dies in Hawkes Road Collision

A Damascus woman has died after what fire officials called a head-on collision on a rural road in Clarksburg on Thursday morning.

Detectives from the Montgomery County Department of Police – Collision Reconstruction Unit are investigating a fatal collision that occurred at about 10:00 am on March 28. 5th District officers and Fire Rescue units responded to the 11700 block of Hawkes Road for the report of a collision between a car and a work van.

The preliminary investigation revealed that a 2013 Honda Accord was traveling eastbound on Hawkes Road and a 2003 Chevrolet Express 2500 van was traveling westbound on Hawkes Road. For reasons still under investigation, the Accord and the Express 2500 van collided in the 11700 block of Hawkes Road, between Stringtown Road and Piedmont Road.

Police said that the driver of the Accord, identified as Nancy Soraya Moreno, 45, of the 10800 block of Sir Barton Circle in Damascus, was transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries. She succumbed to her injuries at the hospital.

The driver of the Express 2500 van, identified as David Joseph Dowling, 57, of the 23100 block of Bank Barn Court in Germantown, and an another adult male front-seat passenger in the van suffered minor injuries in the collision.

Roads in the area were closed for a few hours Thursday morning as police and MCFRS personnel tended to the scene and conducted the investigation. Police said the investigation into the crash was ongoing and asked anyone with information to contact the Collision Reconstruction Unit at 240-773-6620.
