MCPS School Bus Involved in Four-Vehicle Crash

March 15, 2019

A Montgomery County School Bus was involved in a four-vehicle crash that sent six people to the hospital for medical evaluations on Thursday afternoon.

Montgomery County Fire Rescue Service units were called to the crash involving an MCPS school bus, which had students from Northwest High School, at the intersection of Great Seneca Highway and Mateny Road at about 2:15 pm on Thursday, March 14.

The crash involved the school bus and three other vehicles, according to MCFRS officials. EMS personnel evaluated eight patients and ended up transporting six, including the school bus driver, and three passengers on the bus. However, the most seriously injured were the drivers of the other vehicles. Fire officials said that one person was transported with Priority One trauma injuries and another was taken by ambulance with Priority Two injuries. According to MCPS spokesman Derek Turner, none of the injuries to passengers or the driver of the school bus were serious.

The incident forced the closure of the northbound lanes of Great Seneca Highway/MD-119 and Mateny Road for about 90 minutes on Thursday afternoon.
