Germantown Teacher Arrested on Child Porn Charges
Montgomery County Police have arrested a Germantown man, who is a physical education teacher with Montgomery County Public Schools on 10 counts of possessing child pornography.
MCPD detectives from the Special Victims Investigations Division, Child Exploitation Unit, arrested Daemon Alan Dartouzos, of the 20300 block of Sandsfield Terrace in Germantown, charging him with ten counts of Possession of Child Pornography.
Dartouzos has been employed by the Montgomery County Public Schools as a physical education teacher since 1991. He was most recently working at Ashburton Elementary School in Bethesda but has been on administrative leave since January 2018, according to MCPS.
According to police, “These charges are a result of an extensive investigation by detectives from the Child Exploitation Unit in coordination with the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Detectives do not believe that the images of child pornography related to this investigation involved any MCPS students.”
Detectives are urging anyone who has information regarding Dartouzos or these incidents to contact the Child Exploitation Unit at 240-773-5400.
A letter sent home to parents at Ashburton Elementary School by Principal Gregory Mullenholz stated that Dartouzos “was placed on administrative leave in January 2018, when law enforcement executed a search warrant on his home for evidence of his involvement with online child pornography.”
The letter went on to say that MCPS has been cooperating with law enforcement, the FBI, and the State’s Attorney’s Office on the matter and the school district was requested “not to share any details of the investigation with the community until now to avoid prejudicing the ongoing investigation.”
His work history with MCPS began at Garrett Park Elementary and Takoma Park Elementary schools from 1991 to 1993, and Garrett Park and Ashburton elementary schools in 1993-1994, according to MCPS. The following year, 1994-1995, he moved to split time at Kensington Parkwood Elementary School and Ashburton Elementary. The following year he also split time at Whetstone Elementary School in Montgomery Village. In the 1996-1997 school year, he worked at both Whetstone and Ashburton elementary schools. He is been working only at Ashburton Elementary since 1998. Dartouzos was also an assistant track coach at Walter Johnson High School in Bethesda from 2000 to 2002, said the school district.
