Rice to Host School Budget Forum at Neelsville Middle School

County Councilmember Craig Rice has scheduled a series of public forums seeking public input and providing information on the programs and budgets of the County’s public school system and its community college. There will be five forums held in the County with the last taking place on Thursday, April 4 at Neelsville Middle School in Germantown at 6:30 pm. The series was set to begin at Neelsville MS last Wednesday, however, it was cancelled due to schools being closed for inclement weather.

The series will kick off tonight (February 27) at Col. E. Brooke Lee Middle School in Silver Spring at 6:30 pm.

Craig Rice, chair of the Montgomery County Council’s Education and Culture Committee, will be joined by Dr. Jack Smith, superintendent of Montgomery County Public Schools, and Dr. DeRionne Pollard, president of Montgomery College at each of the five forums.

This is the fifth year that these county education leaders are hosting a countywide tour to talk about the education budget process and the priorities for Montgomery County residents. These annual forums present residents an opportunity to learn about and provide input regarding our county’s public-school system and our community college.

“These forums will provide an opportunity for residents to have their questions answered about the education budgets at both the State and County level from kindergarten to higher education,” said Councilmember Rice. “We will discuss opportunities all residents have to help influence and shape budget decisions that will be made as the Council works to adopt the FY20 budget.”

Forums will be held on:

• Feb. 27: Col. E. Brooke Lee Middle School in Silver Spring at 6:30 pm.

• March 6: Rockville High School in Rockville at 6:30 pm.

• March 11: Bethesda Chevy Chase High School in Bethesda at 6:30 pm.

• March 27: Montgomery College in Takoma Park Campus (Cultural Arts Center Theater 1) at 6:30 pm.

• April 4: Neelsville Middle School in Germantown at 6:30 pm.
