The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning for the Germantown Area and Northwest Montgomery County until 1:00 pm Tuesday, Feb 12. The NWS forecasts freezing rain with ice accumulations up to a quarter of an inch.
“A Winter Storm Warning means significant amounts of ice will make travel very hazardous or impossible,” said the NWS warning. “Plan on slippery road conditions. The hazardous conditions will impact the morning commute”
The wintery mix has already created issues in the UpCounty with numerous reports of trees and power lines down creating traffic problems in Clarksburg and Damascus. First Energy is reporting various localized power outages affecting about 200 customers in the UpCounty.
5th District Police are reporting numerous trees down in the UpCounty, including at Ridge Road and Brown Church Road, Honeysuckle Drive near John's Drive, and Kakae Drive near Sweepstakes Drive in Damascus.
Montgomery County Fire Rescue Service units have been responding to a number of calls for wires down and electrical issues, including on call on Schaeffer Road between Tatini Drive and Northern Dancer Lane in Germantown.
Southeast Montgomery County is under a Winter Weather Advisory until 1:00 pm, with possible ice accumulations of one to two tenths of an inch by the time the storm moves out later this afternoon.
