Germantown Man Arrested for Setting Fires in Clarksburg

February 12, 2019

A Germantown man has been arrested on arson charges associated with at least two fires in Clarksburg earlier this month.

Montgomery County Fire and Explosive Investigators have arrested and charged Jimmy Tejada, 22, of the 19200 block of Saint Johnsbury Lane in Germantown with two counts of First-Degree Arson, one count of Second-Degree Arson, and five counts of Reckless Endangerment.

Investigators charge that Tejada set two fires on Brick Haven Way in Clarksburg. The first was early morning fire outside of a townhouse in the 22400 block of Brick Haven Way in Clarksburg earlier Friday morning, Feb. 1. The fire was reported at 4:45 am, and first arriving units found a fire in the exterior of the middle-of-the-row three-story townhouse, originating in the dwelling’s electrical service. The fire endangered five occupants of the townhouse for which Tejada is facing Reckless Endangerment charges.

MCFRS units were called back to Brick Haven Way a week later, for a report of a vehicle fire. Responding units located a white minivan on fire.

“Investigators had reason to believe that the vehicle fire on Brick Haven Way was a set fire, and were able to develop a suspect,” said Pete Piringer, senior spokesman for MCFRS. “As they looked at the biggest picture and looked into the townhouse fire from a week earlier. They had some material evidence analyzed and determined that that fire had been set.”

Investigators were able to link the two fires. He said that investigators were able to review some video that was available in the neighborhood. “There was also some information that was brought forward from the community about a

suspicious vehicle and just good investigative work, they were able to track down and develop this suspect," said Piringer. He said investigators are also looking into the possibility that other fires in the area may be connected with this suspect.

According to court documents, a warrant was issued for Tejada for two counts of Malicious Destruction of Property on January 5.

Tejada has been held without bond at the Montgomery County the Detention Center. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for March 8.
