Poolesville Couple Wins $100K in Anniversary Scratch-Off Win

January 25, 2019

A Poolesville couple have a fun tradition when it comes to purchasing Maryland Lottery scratch-offs. On holidays and special occasions, they buy a few instant ticket games and play them together.

“We have children and we don’t really get a chance to celebrate like we want. So, we just have fun with the scratch-offs,” the said the woman, who choose to remain anonymous. “We go out on all special days, birthdays, Christmas. In fact, I won $50 on Christmas.”

According to the Maryland Lottery, the two arrived at Maryland Lottery headquarters in Baltimore earlier this month because they followed their tradition on their wedding anniversary in March 2018. They bought one $1,000 Frenzy scratch-off for their big day. The result? They won one of the game’s $100,000 top prizes, which made for an awesome anniversary gift.

The lucky couple found their winning game during a quick stop at Village Beer & Wine in Poolesville. They picked the $1,000 Frenzy game at random and then went home to play it. The wife, a daycare teacher, scratched the instant ticket. Her mouth fell open when she saw that one of her numbers matched one of the winning numbers and carried a prize of $100,000, said a Maryland Lottery press release.

“I was so excited because it was our anniversary,” said the mother of two daughters. She immediately showed the scratch-off to her husband, who shared in her joy.

“We were just talking about how we were going to send our 17-year-old daughter to college,” said the husband, a salesman. “Then, this popped up…such a blessing.”

After waiting for the New Year, the winning couple finally made their way to claim the huge prize. The couple found it hard to get a day off from their jobs at the same time and that’s why it took them so long to claim the prize. The happy pair plan to use the entire prize to fund their daughter’s college education.

The lucky Lottery retailer, Village Beer & Wine located at 19716 Fisher Avenue in Poolesville, is also a winner. The business will receive a $1,000 bonus from the Lottery for selling a $100,000 top-prize winning scratch-off.

The $10 game still has plenty of prizes waiting to be claimed before it’s too late. The final claim date for the $1,000 Frenzy ticket is March 11, 2019 and it still has four unclaimed $100,000 top prizes, four unclaimed $20,000 prizes and thousands of others ranging from $10 to $10,000.
