Head-On Collision Leaves One Dead, Two Injured



Detectives from the Montgomery County Police Department – Collision Reconstruction Unit (CRU) continue to investigate a fatal collision that occurred yesterday morning in the Damascus area.

On Tuesday, January 22 at approximately 7:50 am, 5th District officers and Fire and Rescue personnel responded to the 28500 block of Ridge Road for the report of a serious collision which killed one driver, forced a passenger to be airlifted to a hospital, and forced the other driver to be transported to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The preliminary investigation revealed that a white, 1997 Toyota Corolla was traveling northbound on Ridge Road (MD 27) and that a white, 2015 Toyota Avalon was traveling southbound on Ridge Road. For reasons still under investigation, the Corolla and the Avalon collided in the 28500 block of Ridge Road just north of Kemptown Road.

Police said the driver of the Corolla succumbed to his injuries at the scene of the crash. The driver is identified as Wesley Delimon Tibbs III, age 32, of the 4700 block of Hardwood Court in Mount Airy. The front seat passenger, who was transported from the scene via helicopter with critical injuries is identified as Anna Victoria Young, 24, of the same address in Mount Airy. Young was transported with life-threatening injuries, but she is expected to survive.

According to police, the driver of the Avalon, identified as Khary Hiram Tolliver, age 46, of the 100 block of Tulip Court in Hagerstown, was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The crash and subsequent investigation forced the closure of both directions of Ridge Road on Tuesday until about 12:30 pm.
