Moore Named Player of the Year for Third Straight Year




Three student-athletes from Northwest and three from Damascus received All-County honors from Montgomery County Public Schools’ girls volleyball coaches Wednesday afternoon.

The Jags’ Jenaisya Moore was named Montgomery County Player of the Year for the third straight season.

The senior outside hitter started all four years under varsity head coach Stephanie Blake and helped Northwest claim four consecutive state championships and a 77-2 record since 2015.

She also was named Gatorade Maryland Volleyball Player of the Year in 2016 and 2017 and first team All-Met by the Washington Post the past three seasons.

Moore announced her commitment to play for The Ohio State University via Twitter Tuesday afternoon.

Northwest’s senior outside hitter Rachael Bennett was named First Team All-County for the first time in her career. The four-year varsity starter was previously been named to the Second Team in 2016 and 2017 and an Honorable Mention in 2015.

Sophomore libero Michelle Bennett was named Second Team All-County for the second consecutive season.


For Damascus, senior middle hitter Sara Gruber was named Second Team All-County for the second consecutive year, having also been named an Honorable Mention in 2015.

Senior setter Kaylen Bernota and senior libero Cecilia Groves received All-County Honorable Mentions for the first time in 2018

The Swarmin’ Hornets fell 3-0 to eventual state champion Williamsport in the 2A West Section II Final of the Maryland state volleyball tournament on Nov. 7.Captions:
