Focused Enforcement in Germantown-Area Nabs 15 Shoplifters

November 28, 2018

A focused enforcement effort by Montgomery County law to nab shoplifters in the Germantown area resulted in 15 arrests, according to police.

On Thursday, Nov. 15, officers from the 5th District, the 2nd District Community Action Team, and officers from the Maryland National Capital Park Police – Montgomery County Division, conducted focused shoplifting prevention enforcement in retail stores located in the 5th Police District, said police.

Officers coordinated with the stores and their loss prevention personnel prior to this detail.  This enforcement occurred in stores located in the Germantown Commons shopping center, the Milestone Center shopping center located in Germantown, stores located in the Central Business District area of Germantown, and stores located in the Damascus area, according to Montgomery County Police.

During this effort, officers charged fifteen people with theft-related offenses. Two previous shoplifting prevention efforts were held in the 5th District earlier this year and resulted in a total of 36 people being charged with theft-related offenses, said MCPD.

Montgomery County Police continues to work with our business community to ensure a safe and welcoming environment for shoppers in Montgomery County.
