Winter Weather Advisory Issued for Germantown Area

The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for the Germantown area beginning at 6:00 am until 12:00 pm noon on Saturday morning, November 24. A Winter Weather Advisory means that periods of wintery weather will cause primarily travel difficulties. “Freezing rain and sleet on cold road surfaces, bridges, ramps, and overpasses will result in slippery travel. Motorists should use caution if they will be driving late tonight and Saturday morning,” said the National Weather Service.

The area is bracing for its second winter storm of the season which will bring wintery weather to the Germantown area and the UpCounty area of Montgomery County, along with Frederick and Washington counties, Central Carroll County and Eastern Allegany County and northwest Howard County, as well as Loudon County in Virginia.

Freezing rain is expected to begin around dawn on Saturday morning. Total ice accumulations of around one tenth of an inch is expected, before the wintry precipitation turns to plain rain around Noon Saturday. Greater accumulations up to two-tenths of an inch of ice can be expected west of Hagerstown along the Interstate 68 corridor, and the northern Shenandoah Valley Interstate 81 corridor, according to the National Weather Service.

“Be very careful if you venture outside tomorrow. Watch your first few steps in particular as your step or path may be coated with ice,” said the National Weather Service. “A Winter Weather Advisory means that periods of snow, sleet or freezing rain will cause travel difficulties. Expect slippery roads and limited visibilities, and use caution while driving.”
