Winter Storm Warning Issued for UpCounty Area
It seems the novelty early wintery mix, has morphed into a full blown snow storm for the Germantown and UpCounty area of Montgomery County. The National Weather Service issued a Winter Storm Warning for the area until 4:00 am on Friday, Nov. 16, saying that the area could expect up to four- to six-inches of snow and one-tenth of an inch of ice before it is all over.
It seems the snow will not change to rain late Thursday afternoon as it was originally forecast to do — at least not in the UpCounty. The areas included in the warning are Northwest Montgomery County, Northwest Howard County, Eastern Loudoun County in Virginia, and Northern Baltimore County.
“A Winter Storm Warning means significant amounts of snow, sleet and ice will make travel very hazardous or impossible,” said the National Weather Service. “Travel could be extremely difficult. The hazardous conditions could impact the evening commute today.”
MCPD and MCFRS continue to respond to numerous reports of vehicles sliding off the road at various locations throughout the UpCounty. Damascus Road (MD-108) remains closed near Viewland Road and Stanley Hills Drive for a utility pole and wires down across the road.
