The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for the Germantown area beginning at 4:00 am Thursday morning until 4:00 pm Thursday afternoon. A Winter Weather Advisory means that periods of snow will cause primarily travel difficulties. “Plan on slippery road conditions. The hazardous conditions could impact the morning or evening commute,” said the National Weather Service.
The advisory for the UpCounty portion of Montgomery County goes until 4:00 pm Thursday, while the advisory for the down county areas of Montgomery County and DC, will expire at 1:00 pm.
The area is bracing for the first storm of the season which will bring wintery weather to the Germantown area and all of Montgomery County and surrounding counties. Mixed precipitation is expected begin falling overnight and with total sleet and snow accumulation of up to one inch, and ice glaze accumulations of one tenth to two tenths of an inch expected. The wintery mix will into the morning commute making travel conditions hazardous, according to the National Weather Service.
“Be very careful if you venture outside tomorrow. Watch your first few steps in particular as your step or path may be coated with ice,” said the National Weather Service. “A Winter Weather Advisory means that periods of snow, sleet or freezing rain will cause travel difficulties. Expect slippery roads and limited visibilities, and use caution while driving.”
