Irish Christmas in America Brings Strong Irish Traditions to BlackRock

November 8, 2018

BlackRock Center for the Arts launches its Celtic Series with this unique and heartwarming holiday journey, Irish Christmas in America. Producer Oisín Mac Diarmada and his band bring a fascinating performance of music, song, dance, and stories of seasonal Irish traditions to Germantown on Saturday, November 24 at 8:00 pm.

Celebrating its 14th touring year, Irish Christmas in America brings a family-friendly performance that features lively instrumental tunes on fiddle, flute, uilleann pipes, and harp, along with Irish old-style dancing. Produced by Sligo fiddler Oisín Mac Diarmada, the festive holiday show features special guest singer Niamh Farrell, who has toured with singer/songwriter/star, David Gray. Along with music that Irish Music Magazine calls “captivating,” images of the rich historical traditions of Ireland can be seen on the backdrop throughout the entirety of the show. Take a memorable glimpse into the spirit of Christmas, as the finest traditional artists from Ireland bring traditional Celtic customs to the States.

“Irish Christmas in America admirably refuses to pander to the lowest common denominator. By doing so, they all convey the spirit of the season with uncommon taste and integrity” – Irish Echo.

BlackRock’s Celtic Series features various song makers imbedded in the Irish tradition throughout the 2018-19 season. Each Celtic show is a unique night of Irish music with live performances from:

   •    Teada: March 2, 2019

   •    Celtic Angels: March 15, 2019

   •    Jarlath Henderson: May, 4, 2019
