Clarksburg Falls to Paint Branch in Season Finale

The Clarksburg Coyotes battled Paint Branch Panthers and the elements in Friday’s season finale at Canyon. The ‘Yotes came up short in a 47-13 loss, as Paint Branch improved their record to 9-1 and prepared for the 4A North Regional Semi-Finals against 7-3 Sherwood coming up this Friday.

The Canyon was wet and soaked on Friday as a torrential rainstorm blew through the area. The Coyotes forced the Panthers to turn the ball over on downs in their first series, but the weather made for a slick ball and quick turnover. The fumble gave Paint Branch good field position and senior quarterback Norman Douglas Jr. was able to find senior receiver Ishmael Agbodzah for a touchdown to take a 7-0 lead.

Douglas and Agbodzah would hook up for the second touchdown of the first quarter after Clarksburg would be forced to punt on the next possession. Douglas tossed a 56-yard strike to Agbodzah to extend the lead to 14-0 with 3:23 left in the first quarter.

The Panthers would be in the endzone again before the end of the quarter when senior defensive back Christopher Adotey intercepted a Joey Perkins pass to set up Paint Branch for their third touchdown of the game, a one-yard plunge by senior back D'Angelo Ferguson. The kick would bounce off the goal posts. Panthers led 20-0.

The Coyotes were hampered by the weather and could not get anything going offensively. After Clarksburg punt, Paint Branch took over at the Coyote 40-yard-line. The Panthers would pound the ball with senior running back Justin Page eating up chunks of muddy ground to get the ball within the 10-yard-line. Page would pound the ball into the endzone from the two-yard-line to extend the lead to 27-0 with 4:40 left in the first half.
