Northwest Earns Neubeiser His 70th Win as Jags' Head Coach



The Jags scored early and often on Friday night as Northwest celebrated homecoming with a 47-14 victory over the Whitman Vikings in Germantown. The Jags also earned Head Coach Mike Neubeiser his 70th win at the helm of Northwest.

Northwest came into Friday night’s matchup with a record of 6-1, while the Vikings were hoping for their fourth win of the season. The Jags got started the scoring started early with a 51-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Jack Anders to senior receiver A.J. Woods. It would be the first of Woods’ two touchdowns on the night.


A Whitman fumble on the next possession would set up the Jags would great field position. Northwest would start from the Whitman 23, and Anders would extend the lead to 13-0 on a one-yard QB sneak.

The Vikings would threaten, moving the ball down inside the Northwest 10, but Jaguar defense would stop them on fourth down at the six-yard line. The Jags would end the first quarter with a 20-0 lead thanks to Isaiah Bishop’s 95-yard touchdown run.

Northwest would score again on an Ajahni Terry touchdown run to expand the lead to 27-0. Terry had two touchdown runs in the game.

A.J. Woods’ second touchdown was a 15-yard run to make the score 35-0, which was sandwiched between Terry’s two scores. Terry’s second touchdown was a 35-yard dash to bring the score to 41-0.

Whitman would find the end zone in the third quarter to cut the score to 41-7 before Northwest’s Rodrick James would run for a four-yard touchdown to end the Jags scoring at 47.

Next week, the Jags would host their arch-rivals the Quince Orchard Cougars in the Battle of the Big Cats at the Black Hole in Germantown. Both teams are 7-1 with their only losses to private schools. The Cougars lost to Bulls 22-14 back on Sept. 21, and the Jags fell to Our Lady of Good Counsel 56-7 on Sept. 28. Quince Orchard is averaging 45 points per game, and have been held under 40 just twice — the Bullis game and a 24-8 victory over Paint Branch on Oct. 5. The Battle of the Big Cats is slated for 7:00 pm start on Friday, Oct. 26.
