Allan Harris Brings Brooklyn Jazz to BlackRock
BlackRock Center for the Arts will open up its star-studded Jazz series with award-winning vocalist, guitarist, and songwriter, Allan Harris. Harris will captivate audiences with his formidable baritone on Friday, October 19 at 8:00 pm as part of BlackRock’s Friday Night Series.
Tickets for this event are $25 and $35 per person. However, Germantown Pulse readers can get Special 50 Percent Discount on tickets to the Oct. 19 performance by using the code ALL1019 when purchasing tickets.
With the New York Times and the Miami Herald recognizing him as a “protean talent” and jazz legend Tony Bennett dubbing him as his “favorite singer,” Allan Harris has received praise from the pinnacle of the music industry throughout his illustrious career. The Brooklyn native was seemingly born to be a musician growing up around the likes of Clarence Williams and Louis Armstrong.
As a teenager, Harris moved to Pittsburgh where he would improve on his musical prowess by learning from master musicians Harold Betters and Roger Humphries. His time in Pittsburgh allowed him the opportunity to broaden his musical palette by learning a sundry of styles ranging from country to soul music until he ultimately found his niche in jazz. Once he settled into his newfound style, he took to the road again moving from Pittsburgh to Atlanta, then again to Miami where he would meet Tony Bennett.
Harris returned to New York in 1991 where he has been able to forge sterling credentials within the rich territory of the jazz tradition as a three-time winner of the New York Nightlife Award for “Outstanding Jazz Vocalist.”
Patrons are encouraged to bring BYOF (Bring Your Own Feast) to our Friday Night Series, which could include take-out from an enormous array of Germantown restaurants or their picnic basket of their own munchies. No alcoholic beverages from off premises may be brought into the BlackRock facilities.
