5th District Police to Host Safety Town Event in Damascus

Members of the 5th District Montgomery County Police have teamed up with the Stop, Drop, and Play Children’s Museum in Damascus, and the Montgomery County Fire Rescue Service to hold a Safety Town this Saturday, Oct. 6 from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm. The event will take place at the Stop, Drop and Play Children’s Museum at 9882 Main Street in Damascus.

According to 5th District Deputy Commander, Lt. Amy Daum, the 5th District and Montgomery County are committed to Vision Zero to reduce serious traffic collisions and fatalities on the roadways. “Here in Montgomery County we aspire to have zero traffic related deaths by the year 2030,” said Daum.

Montgomery County is one of the first county governments in the United States to initiate a Vision Zero plan. The County has put resources in place to reduce severe and fatal collisions on County roads by 35 percent for vehicle occupants (drivers and passengers), pedestrians, and bicyclists by November 2019.

Daum said that officers from the 5th District will be holding events and activities throughout October to help children and their parents understand the rules of safety and get educated on how best to avoid dangerous situations when walking or biking in the County. She encourages parents and kids to come out to one of the events. “If you live or work in the 5th District we would love to see you," said Daum.
