Flood Warning for Germantown Area

September 8, 2018

The National Weather Service has issued a Flood Warning for Germantown and all of Montgomery County until Midnight tonight, Friday, Sept 7.

The warning stated, “At 7:58 pm, Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms producing heavy rain which will cause flooding. Up to one inch of rain has already fallen and additional rainfall amounts of 1 to 2 inches are possible.”

Montgomery County locations that may experience flooding include Germantown, Rockville, Bethesda, Gaithersburg, Olney, Poolesville, Aspen Hill, Potomac, North Bethesda, Montgomery Village, North Potomac, Redland, and Chevy Chases.

A Flood Warning means Flooding is occurring or is imminent. Most flood deaths occur in automobiles.  Never drive your vehicle into areas where the water covers the roadway.  Do not attempt to cross water covered bridges, dips or water covered roadways.

Flood waters are usually deeper than they appear. Just one foot of flowing water is powerful enough to sweep a vehicle off the road.  When encountering flooded roads make the smart choice...turn around...don't drown.
