Coyotes Crush Kennedy, 56-12 in Season Opener

The Clarksburg Coyotes kicked off their 2018 campaign with a big win over the Kennedy Cavilers over the weekend, in a game that started on Friday night and was completed Saturday morning in Clarksburg. The Coyotes crushed the Cavs 56-12.

The Coyotes jumped out to a 14-0 lead in the first quarter and never really looked back. The Cavaliers managed to jump on an errant screen pass in the endzone for their first touchdown. Clarksburg blocked the point-after attempt to keep the score 14-6. The Coyotes would score again in the waning seconds of the first quarter to take a 21-6 lead.

On the ensuing series, the Coyotes defense would hold and force a punt which would be returned for a Clarksburg touchdown. Clarksburg was up 28-6 early in the second quarter.

And then the lightning came and forced the first weather delay.

After the weather delay, the Clarksburg defense held and the Coyotes offense took over and broke off a 70-yard touchdown run to extend the lead to 35-6.

And then the lightning came again, this time it forced the postponement of the game until Saturday morning at 10:00 am.

The Coyotes picked up right where they left off the night before scoring three more touchdowns. The first was a pass to go up 42-6 at halftime, another one-yard run to go up 49-6 in the third quarter. Kennedy would put together a drive in the fourth quarter and score to cut the lead to 49-12. But on the ensuing kickoff, Clarksburg would run the ball into the endzone to cap the scoring at 56-12.

This is the second year in a row that the Coyotes have held the Cavs to just 12 points in the opener. Last year, Clarksburg defeated Kennedy 34-12 to start the season.

Next week Clarksburg will travel up MD-355 to face Frederick County rival Urbana. The Hawks are coming off a 43-7 loss to Westminster. The last time these two teams met the Hawks came out on top in close game, 20-17 in the Canyon.
