Washington Spirit Falls to Houston Dash on the Road

August 20, 2018

The Washington Spirit fell to the Houston Dash on Friday night in their final road match of the 2018 NWSL season.

The Dash took a 1-0 lead into halftime before netting three second half goals, winning by a final score of 4-0. Kealia Ohai spotted Houston the lead late in the first half with a goal in the 41st minute, scored on an assist from Rachel Daly.

From there, Sofia Huerta recorded a second half brace with goals in the 58th and 76th minutes. Taylor Comeau assisted Huerta’s first goal, and Daly notched her second assist of the night on Huerta’s second score.

Kyah Simon finished the scoring in the 84th minute on a strike from outside the box set up by Veronica Latsko.

Washington controlled 60.1 percent of the possession in the match, but the Dash were able to outshoot the Spirit by a margin of 23-15, with 10 shots on target to the Spirit’s three.

Washington will return to action in Germantown this Wednesday, Aug. 22 against Utah Royals FC as the club opens up a stretch of three home games in a row to finish the 2018 season. It will be the Spirit’s first-ever home game against the first-year Utah club.
