Germantown Grocery Clerk Assaulted as Women Attempt to Steal Baby Formula

August 20, 2018

Montgomery County Police Detectives are hoping the public can help them catch two women who assaulted a clerk while attempting to steal baby formula from a grocery store in Germantown ten days ago. Investigators are releasing video surveillance of the attempted robbery and are asking for the public’s help in identifying the two female suspects.

Investigators with the MCPD Major Crimes Division are investigating an attempted commercial robbery that occurred on Saturday, Aug. 11 at the Shoppers grocery store in the Cloppers Mill Shopping Center off Great Seneca Highway.

At approximately 9:05 pm that night, 5th District officers responded to the Shoppers grocery store at 18066 Mateny Road for the report of an assault that had just occurred.

The investigation by detectives determined that the two suspects entered the grocery store, approached the 47-year-old female employee who was behind a counter and demanded baby formula which was kept in a locked case. The two suspects, one pushing a double-stroller, assaulted the employee and then fled from the grocery store without obtaining any property. Fire and Rescue personnel responded and transported the employee to a local hospital for treatment of her non-life-threatening injuries.

Detectives are asking anyone with information about this attempted robbery or the suspects to call the Major Crimes Division at 240-773- 5070. Those who wish to remain anonymous may call Crime Solvers of Montgomery County toll-free at 1-866-411-TIPS (8477).  Crime Solvers will pay a cash reward of up to $10,000 for information provided to them that leads to an arrest and/or an indictment for this crime.
