Germantown Man Arrested in Connection with Timko Lane Shooting

Montgomery County Police have arrested a Germantown man in connection with an April home invasion and shooting at a townhouse on Timko Lane.

Police arrested Rodney Leon Mills, age 20, of the 18000 block of Chalet Drive in Germantown, on charges connected to the shooting, which left a teenager with a gunshot wound to his face.

According to court documents, Mills, who is known as “Unc” knocked on the door of a townhouse in the 18300 block of Timko Lane at about noon on April 8. The occupants, a teenage male, and female were home. The female answered the door and recognized Mills and let him into the residence. Mills was arrested on April 12.

Once in the living room, Mills grabbed the male by the hair and took out a handgun and pointed it at the male victim’s face and demanded money. The male refused, at this point court documents state that “Unc fired one time striking [the victim] in the face.” The shooter then fled the residence. The victim received “very serious injuries,” according to court documents. The bullet entered the victim near his mouth, and exited at his left jaw, then re-entered at the victim’s left shoulder, and exited again below the armpit, according to documents.

According to documents, the 5D-Germantown Investigative Section were familiar with a man known as “Unc” or “Unc Man,” whose real name is Rodney Mills, because of previous arrests for robbery and burglary, and developed Mills as a suspect. He was identified as the shooter by the female who answered the door at the Timko Lane townhouse.

Mills was initially arrested on charges of Attempted First Degree Murder, First Degree Assault, Use of a Firearm in Commission of a Felony, and Attempted Armed Robbery. However, the top charge of attempted murder was dropped.

“Upon further investigation, it appears that the weapon may have discharged accidentally. We amended the charges to reflect this new information,” said Ramon Korionoff, the spokesman for the State’s Attorney’s Office.

Mills remains in custody at the Montgomery County Correctional Center in Boyds. He is currently facing charges of Armed Robbery, First Degree Assault, Use of Firearm in Commission of a Crime. A trial has been scheduled for Oct. 15 in the Montgomery County Circuit Court before Judge John Maloney.
