Spirit’s Winless Streak Continues with 1-0 Mid-Week Loss at Utah

August 9, 2018

The Washington Spirit have not posted a Win since a 1-0 victory over Sky Blue on May 23. The Spirit’s 11 game winless streak continued Wednesday night with a 1-0 loss in a mid-week match-up with the Utah Royals FC.

In a defensive battle at Rio Tinto Stadium, the Spirit goalkeeper Aubrey Bledsoe racked up seven saves, but a second half goal by Utah’s Katie Stengel, a one-time Spirit forward, proved to be the difference in the game.

Following a scoreless first half, the lone goal came in the 74th minute, with Taylor Lytle assisting Stengel on the play. Bledsoe increased her league-leading save total to 92 on the season.

Washington will visit the Houston Dash in their next game on Friday, August 17 with kickoff at 8:30 pm. The team returns to the Maryland SoccerPlex on Wednesday, August 22 to host Utah Royals FC at 7:30 p.m.

The Washington Spirit has opened ticket sales for the club’s home game at the new Audi Field in Washington, D.C. on August 25 against Portland Thorns FC.
