Police Looking for Bandits Responsible for String of Coin Machine Thefts

Police Officers from two Montgomery County Police Districts, along with Gaithersburg Police are hoping the public can help identify the two individuals police say have conducted a coin machine crime wave over 20 days in the UpCounty.

Detectives from the MCPD’s 5th and 6th District Investigative Sections and detectives from the Gaithersburg City Police Department are investigating a series of burglaries and thefts from coin machines located in apartment complexes in Gaithersburg and Germantown.

The incidents occurred between May 28 and July 13, with five of the incidents taking place in Gaithersburg and two in Germantown.

Investigators believe that these thefts and burglaries may have been committed by the same suspect(s). In all of the incidents, the suspect(s) used an unknown tool to force entry into the coin machines and steal cash.

Below is a summary of the six burglaries and thefts:

May 28 – Burglary, the suspects, forced entry into the laundry room at 19723 Crystal Rock Drive in Germantown. Police say this occurred at approximately 9:40 pm.

June 10 – Burglary, again the suspects forced entry into the laundry room, this time at 18215 Lost Knife Circle in Montgomery Village, occurred between the hours of 8:00 am to 4:00 pm.

June 19 or 20 – The suspects were back in Germantown and back at 19723 Crystal Rock Drive. Once again they broke into the laundry room. Police are unsure when this crime took place.

Police say the thieves were busy between Friday, June 21 and Saturday, June 22, hitting at least three locations. Police say there was theft from laundry room which occurred between these dates. This time the crime occurred at 374 N Summit Avenue in Gaithersburg. Police again do not know when this might have happened.

June 22 – This time the suspects changed things up and forced entry into the community center at 18700 Walkers Choice Road in Montgomery Village. This incident occurred at approximately 2:00 am. Police were able to obtain a video recording of this incident on surveillance video. They ask the public to watch the video to see help identify these suspects.

A third incident occurred between June 21 and June 22. Once again theft from laundry room, at 116 Duval Lane, Gaithersburg. This is being investigated by Gaithersburg City Police Department.

Gaithersburg City Police Department, believe the suspects were back at it again at approximately 4:21 am on Friday, July 13, with an attempted burglary from laundry coin machine located outside of the building at 25 School Drive in Gaithersburg.

Detectives are asking anyone with information regarding these crimes to contact 5th District detectives at 240-773-6237 or the 6th District detectives at 240-773-5770. For those who wish to remain anonymous, Crime Solvers of Montgomery County is offering a reward of up to $10,000 for any information that leads to an arrest of the unknown suspect(s).
