Seneca Valley High School in ‘Dire Need' of Field Hockey, Other Fall Sports Coaches
With less than two weeks until the official open of Fall sports Seneca Valley High School has four coaching vacancies to fill, according to Jesse Irvin, Seneca Valley’s Athletic Director.
“We currently have four coaching vacancies, four of which are for the fall season which begins on August 8,” said Irvin. The fall openings are Varsity and Junior Varsity Field Hockey Coach, Junior Varsity Boys Soccer Coach, and Junior Varsity Cheerleading head coach explained Irvin. “Practice starts on August 8 — so, I am running out of time.”
“The situation is very dire — in terms of being able to field a team,” said Irvin. “With practices starting in less than a week, we need to get applicants and someone hired ASAP. When a coach is hired, it can take several days, up to two weeks to go through the County vetting process. So, we are already looking at a delay in having field hockey start on time. For soccer and cheer, the varsity coaches can assist until one is hired.”
Coaches need not be teachers or current Montgomery County Public School employees, but all candidates must be 21-years-old and will be required to undergo a background check before being hired. Coaching jobs require at least 12 hours per week, but normally more is involved.
Candidates should have had at least played the sport in high school or college or have some coaching experience in that sport, said Irvin. “If they have experience working with high school kids, it is a bonus, but not a requirement. They have to be 21 years or older and will have to go through a background check through MCPS.”
Any interested candidates should contact Athletic Director Jesse Irvin via email at email@example.com. Candidates should also apply via the Montgomery County Public Schools Career Website, which will ask for applicants to upload a resume.
