Seneca Valley After Prom Goes to the "Beach"

Seneca Valley High School held its prom on Friday, May 18 and students and their dates showed up in their finest threads, and after the prom, over 220 upperclassmen and their guests changed their attire to something far less formal and hit the “Beach” at the After Prom Party sponsored by the SVHS PTSA.

The After Prom event, which was held at the high school featured a Beach theme and lasted until the wee small hours of the morning. The After Prom party provides a safe environment for activities, food, and prizes as an alternative to other parties. This activity is meant to be more enticing to students than an evening of engaging in dangerous activities such as drinking, using drugs, or driving under the influence.

The American Automobile Association says traffic deaths involving teens are highest this time of year, citing the possibility of more underage drinking and illegal drug use associated with prom, graduations, and related events.

This year’s event featured two Xtreme inflatables, karaoke, air-brush tattoo’s, billiards, corn-hole, table tennis, foosball, Xtreme Twister, mega Jenga, a black light room and a movie area filled with bean bags.

With safety a number one priority, an educational element was incorporated an “Under the Influence” challenge for the students, where they wore special goggles that were on loan from the Montgomery County Police Department which simulated being under the influence of alcohol. The students were asked to perform a variety of tasks that tested their motor skills while wearing the goggles. This activity helped students become aware of the dangers of drinking and how it affects their body.

The SV After Prom is 100 percent funded by donations from Seneca Valley parents and community sponsors. These generous donations are used to make the SV After Prom event a fun and safe place for the students to go after the prom ended. The SV PTSA would like to acknowledge and thank our parent volunteers and the following community sponsors for their generous donations; Ross Contracting, Hi-Chew, Seneca Valley Families, SVHS Boosters, Planet Fitness, Zava Zone, Greg’s Driving School, DaMarco The Italian Place, Dustin Construction, Preferred Insurance Solutions, Modell’s Sporting Goods, Joe’s GE, Shady Spring Bank, Kona Ice, and Agro Dolce Restaurant.
