Public Tip and a Video Game Give-Away Help MCPD Nab 7-Eleven Robbery Suspect

When the 7-Eleven at Clopper Road and Mateny Road was robbed on Saturday, May 19, detectives from Montgomery County Police released a surveillance video of the incident on the following Monday. That video and the unique “Call of Duty” backpack used in the robbery has led to the arrest of a Germantown man who lives in the townhouses across the street from the store.

Detectives from the MCPD Major Crimes Division has charged Logan Stefon Lawson, 21, of the 18400 block of Stone Hollow Drive in Germantown with the armed robbery of the 7-Eleven store located about 500 feet from his residence at 12861 Clopper Road.

The investigation by detectives revealed that the suspect entered the store displaying a handgun. The suspect threatened an employee who was working behind the counter and demanded cash from the registers. The suspect obtained currency from the business and fled from the 7-Eleven. The money was put into a “Call of Duty” bag.

On May 21, detectives released surveillance video of the suspect to the media and public and asked for help in identifying him. Investigators received multiple tips which led to the identification of Lawson as the suspect. An MCP officer who was familiar with Lawson also identified Lawson as the robbery suspect, said police.

5th District patrol officer Orlando Jarquin noticed that the “Call of Duty” backpack, which is clearly seen in the video was unique and only given to customers who pre-ordered the latest Call of Duty video game during a set time. Detectives were able to confirm that Lawson pre-ordered the game and received the bag.

Detectives obtained an arrest warrant for Lawson charging him with one count of armed robbery, one count of first-degree assault, and one count of the use of a firearm during the commission of a felony.
