May 31, 2018

A mid-morning crash left one man with trapped and closed Wisteria Drive in Germantown for a few hours as fire units worked to free the man and police investigated the events leading up to the crash.

Montgomery County Police and Fire units responded to the 12700 block of Wisteria Drive, between Crystal Rock Drive and Great Seneca Highway for the report of an accident at about 11:00 am on Thursday, May 31.

Police found two vehicles, both pickup trucks one white and the other brown. The white Ford f250 had crashed head-on into a tree along Wisteria Drive. MCFRS personnel had to use the Jaws of Life to extricate the drive. According to MCFRS radio reports, the white pickup impacted the tree at approximately 50 mph, and the adult male driver received significant injuries. The driver was transported to a local hospital by MCFRS EMS.

Montgomery County Police are investigating the circumstances leading up to the impact at the tree, the driver of the white pickup is alleged to have struck the brown pickup from behind in an area about 500 feet further east on Wisteria Drive near the crosswalk and traffic-calming median. It seems the white pickup drove over the median and crashed through traffic signs and continued westbound on Wisteria Drive before losing control and striking the tree on the eastbound side of the street.

Police are investigating if this was an alleged hit-and-run or if the driver of the white pickup had suffered some sort of medical emergency which led to the collisions. Wisteria Drive was closed between Great Seneca Highway and Crystal Rock Drive for about two hours while the driver was extricated and police investigated the crash.
