Shots Fired During Home Invasion Robbery in Germantown

A woman was robbed in her townhouse in Germantown when two men, one armed with handgun forced their way into the residence and began shooting. Luckily, no one was struck by the bullets.

Montgomery County Police report that a home invasion robbery occurred in the 13600 block of Demetrias Way in Germantown at about 12:01 am on Tuesday, May 29. 5th District officers responded to the townhouse when an adult female called to report that she had just been robbed by two men who forced their way into the dwelling.

The woman in the home reported to detectives that she heard the sound of gunshots inside the home and went to investigate. The victim was confronted by the two suspects who then threatened her with the handgun and demanded cash. The suspects obtained property from the home and fled.

During the investigation, detectives determined that the suspects fired several shots while inside the residence. Investigators further determined that some of the shots penetrated a wall of the home and entered a neighboring home.

Responding officers checked that home and no injuries were reported.

Detectives do not believe that this home invasion robbery was random. Montgomery County Police did not say exactly what was taken from the home. “Investigators do know what sort of relationship there is between the suspects and residents, but they do not believe that this was completely random,” said Officer Rick Goodale, an MCPD spokesperson. “Investigators believe, that the victims or the house was specifically targeted for one reason or another and they are trying to sort out why.”

The suspect who was armed with the handgun is described as an African American male in his 30’s and is approximately 6-feet, 1-inch tall. The second suspect is described as an African American male between 20 and 30 years old, approximately 5-feet, 9-inches tall, and weighs approximately 250 pounds.

“Thankfully nobody was actually hit by the gunfire,” said Goodale.

This is the second home invasion type robbery in Germantown this year. Police were called to the 18300 block of Timko Lane for the report of a shooting at 11:59 pm on Sunday, April 8. One man was shot in the face in that incident. Police are still investigating that incident.
