Injured Hiker Rescued by Helicopter After Tumble Down Sugarloaf Mountain Cliff
A Maryland State Police helicopter crew helped rescue an injured hiker who had fallen down the side of a cliff while hiking on Sugarloaf Mountain in Dickerson on Monday afternoon.
At approximately 3:00 pm on May 21, Maryland State Police Aviation Trooper 3, based in Frederick, was dispatched to Sugarloaf Mountain as crews from Montgomery County and Frederick County fire rescue services assisted from the ground near Comus Road in Dickerson.
The pilots maneuvered the AW-139 helicopter into position 80 feet above a small rock outcropping at an elevation of 1,200 feet above sea level. A trooper was lowered to the scene to assess the patient and coordinate extrication with arriving ground providers.
