Man Shot After Early Morning Altercation at Convenience Store

May 21, 2018

Montgomery County Police are investigating the shooting of a man after he got into an altercation with a number of individuals at a Germantown 7-Eleven store.

Police say the call was received at approximately 2:18 am on Monday, May 21 saying that a man had been shot in the driveway behind the 7-Eleven store located at 19786 Crystal Rock Drive in Germantown. According to Sargent Rebecca Innocenti, a spokesperson for MCPD, the victim is a 28-year-old male who received non-life threatening injuries. According to police, the victim and a group of individuals had gotten into a dispute inside the store and he was shot shortly after he left the store.

Germantown Pulse has learned that the original altercation involved three females inside the 7-Eleven. The argument became more heated outside of the store when the two males joined the heated discussion, at that point one of the males took out a handgun and fired it at the victim. He ran to the nearby Germantown Emergency Center and was later transferred to a local trauma center.

Sources tell Germantown Pulse that police have recovered three shell casings from the scene.

This is the second shooting in Germantown in a week. On Tuesday, May 15 a 21-year-old adult male was shot in the area of Sage Way and Cinnamon Drive in the Germantown Park neighborhood. That shooting happened as a vigil for former-resident Genesis McCarter-Berretto was winding down. The 18-year-old McCarter-Berretto was shot and killed last Sunday while attending a house party in Frederick. The unidentified victim of Tuesday’s shooting was shot once in the head and is expected to survive.

Police do not believe that two shootings are related, according to Innocenti.

Anyone with information regarding the shooting or the suspect(s) involved is urged to contact investigators of the Germantown Investigative Section at 240-773-6237. To be eligible for a reward, tipsters may call Crime Solvers of Montgomery County toll-free at 1-866-411-TIPS (8477) or enter a tip online. Crime Solvers will pay a cash reward of up to $10,000 for information provided to them that leads to an arrest and/or indictment of the suspect(s) involved in this crime. Tipsters will remain anonymous.
