The Northwest Jags boys and girls teams each earned a first-round playoff win over the Gaithersburg Trojans on Wednesday night. The boys with a 14-9 victory in Germantown, to break a two-game losing skid. The girls traveled to Gaithersburg to defeat the Lady Trojans 10-6 and end a five-game losing streak.
The Jags who finished the regular season 5-8 got scoring from seven different players on route to eliminating the 2-10 Gaithersburg.
Northwest had three players scoring three goals, seniors Luke Patterson, Brian Beach, and freshman John “Nikos” Karayinis, each had a Hat Trick. Patterson scored his 100th career goal during Wednesday’s game.
While Jaguars’ junior Logan Bartolomeo scored two goals of his own, while freshman Max Esposito, junior Dylan Le, and Louis Soto each added a goal.
The Trojans had four players with multiple goals, seniors Chip Bradshire and Francis Rose, along with junior Joe Hahn, and Travis Martinez each scored twice. Senior Zach Chau added one to bring the Trojan scoring to nine.
The Jags will advance to play Quince Orchard on the road on Saturday at 2:00 pm. The Cougars finished the regular season with a record of 7-4. The last time these two teams met, back on April 6, QO defeated Northwest 15-4. The Cougars have lost three of the last four games. The Cougars had a bye in the first round.
The Lady Jags finished the regular season with a 2-10 record and beat a Gaithersburg team which ended the regular season even at 6-6. The Lady Jags advance to face 6-6 Wootton at 5:30 pm on Friday night in Rockville. Wootton is riding a two-game winning streak with wins over Blair and Paint Branch to end the regular season and earn a bye in the first round.
