Update: Police Find Shell Casings in Fountain Hills Park

After an initial investigation did not turn up any evidence of shots being fired in the area of Fountain Hills Local Park in Germantown in the early hours of Monday morning, police responded to the area later that morning after a resident found some evidence that shots were fired in the area.

The Germantown Pulse initially reported that police said “nothing was found” after an initial investigation, however, a number of residents contacted the Pulse to refute that claim, saying that shotgun casings had in fact been found in the park located at 18801 Liberty Mill Road in Germantown.

5th District Lieutenant Amy Daum confirmed that units responded to the area at 3:07 am on Monday, April 23 police, “but there was nothing found at that time,” said Daum via an email. “This is not unusual; it’s difficult to see this type of physical evidence at night.”

Daum said that about 6:15 am officers returned to the area. “MCPD responded to the area again at the request of a resident who had found physical evidence possibly related to the earlier call for service. Officers collected the evidence and initiated an investigation,” she said via email. She said that no victims were reported, and no damage was reported to nearby buildings or vehicles.

The Pulse has confirmed with multiple sources that a number shell casings from a shotgun and other evidence were recovered from the area of the baseball field, near Champions Way. It seems the shots were fired into the field since no damage or injuries were discovered. If captured the suspect or suspects could face firearm charges.

According to Daum, the initial report, which the public information officer used was accurate, but since the public information office is not in the Germantown District the updated information was not available to the to the department spokesperson at the time of the Pulse’s inquiry.

Police are continuing to investigate this incident, said Daum.
