Pedestrian Struck by MCPS School Bus on Ridge Road

A Montgomery County Public Schools bus was involved in a pedestrian collision Tuesday afternoon which sent one woman to the hospital and closed northbound Rt. 27 for most of the evening rush hour.

Shortly before 3:10 pm Montgomery County Fire Rescue and police units responded to the intersection of Ridge Road/Rt. 27 and Observation Drive in Germantown for the report of a woman who had been struck by a school bus.

MCFRS EMS transported the adult female to a local hospital with Priority 1 injuries, according to MCFRS senior spokesperson Pete Piringer. While he was unsure of the exact age of the female patient, he said she was rough 60-years-old.

MCPS confirmed that a County school bus was involved in the incident. A spokesman for the school district said that two students from the Alternative Education Program were on the school bus at the time of the incident. No students were injured.

The incident took place just a few feet north of the intersection with Observation Drive. MCPD had the northbound lanes of Ridge Road closed until approximately 6:20 pm on Tuesday evening. All northbound traffic was diverted to eastbound on Observation Drive.
