An Orkin exterminator service truck smashed into the Chipotle Mexican Grill location in Germantown Town Center after a collision with another vehicle on Monday morning.
Montgomery County Fire Rescue Service and Montgomery County Police units responded to the intersection of Century Boulevard and Crystal Rock Drive shortly after 7:30 am on March 26 for the report of a two-vehicle collision. When police arrived, on the scene, they found an Orkin service truck had smashed into the window of the Chipotle restaurant.
The service truck had collided with a white sedan, doing significant damage to the sedan which remained in the intersection. The collision sent the service truck careening into the building, breaking the glass windows and doing some minor structural damage. Police at the scene of the incident said the collision might have been the fault of the sedan driver who failed to defrost and de-ice his windshield before driving. The unidentified driver had been ticketed.
While the morning was bright and sunny, it was below freezing this morning after a light rainfall, which created frost covered windshields across the area.
Both drivers were transported to local hospitals by MCFRS EMS with non-life threatening injuries. The restaurant was not open for business at the time, but there was an employee in the building preparing to open for the business day.
According to Pete Piringer, both a building inspector and a health inspector were called to the scene. While the building seemed to be spared any significant structural damage, according to Piringer, it is expected that the restaurant will be closed for repairs for at least a day or so.
The collision clean-up caused Century Boulevard to be closed in both directions at Crystal Rock Drive for about 90 minutes Monday morning. Some lanes of eastbound Crystal Rock Drive were also blocked as Fire Rescue and tow crews worked.

Next: According to police at the scene the driver of the white sedan did not properly clear the ice and frost from his windshield, which may have contributed to the collision.
