Clarksburg Beats QO in Opening Playoff Round, 81-66
On Friday night, the Clarksburg Coyotes headed into the Cougar Dome at Quince Orchard with a bit of a chip on their shoulders. When the two teams, which both ended the regular season even at 11-11, last met Quince Orchard beat Clarksburg by 17 points.
As the 4A West basketball playoff began Friday, the Coyotes avenged that loss with an 81-66 victory to move on to a second-round match-up with top-seeded Northwest on tonight (Monday).
The Cougars took an early two-point lead after the first quarter, but the Coyotes were able to bounce back in the second to take the lead by two at half-time, 35-33.
Despite getting five players in double-digits, the Cougars were not able to keep pace with the Clarksburg shooters in the second half. Clarksburg had 24 of the 81 points from beyond the three-point line, burying eight shots from long range.
The Coyotes were led by senior Raemond Thomson with 18 points on two field goals and three three-pointers. He also shot five-for-six from the foul line. He was followed closely by fellow senior Alex Behzadi with 17 points, four three-ball, and five-of-six from the line. Two other seniors had 15 points each, Diven Wallington and Stephan Armstrong. The Coyotes shot 84 percent from the foul line adding 27 points from the charity stripe.
Quince Orchard was led by Jack Faraone with 17 points on three buckets, and two three-pointers, five-for-five from the line. Daniel Dorsey added 16 points on seven field goals and two points from the line. John Bikim, Noah Adman, and Cameron Garrett each had 10 points in the loss.
