Laurel Hill Way Fire Displaces Family

A Germantown family has been displaced after a fire which started under the deck of their townhouse caused significant damage to the dwelling on Sunday morning.

Montgomery County Fire Rescue Service units were called to 20147 Laurel Hill Way in Germantown shortly after 10:00 am on Sunday, Feb. 11 after reports of fire on the rear deck of the middle-of-the-row townhouse.

MCFRS senior spokesman Pete Piringer said the fire started in the exterior ground floor of the two-story townhouse and eventually engulfed the rear deck and extended into the walls of the townhouse.

Fire officials said the cause of the fire was accidental and electrical in nature. All occupants of the house were able to escape the fire without injuries. More than fifty firefighters and 18 pieces of apparatus were called to the scene to extinguish the fire.

Officials estimate that the fire did about $65,000 in damage to the deck and townhouse. No injuries were reported.
