Jags Continue to Be Red Hot Winning Four in a Row

The Northwest Boys Basketball team is coming down the home stretch of the best regular season performance by a Jags hardcourt team in the history of the school. The Jags are 15-3 have already clinched the first division title for Northwest. They displayed their prowess and depth as they coasted to a 76-54 win over 4-13 Walter Johnson on Tuesday night.

Prior to beating Walter Johnson, the Jags defeated 9-8 Sherwood 93-61, 12-5 Richard Montgomery 69-61, and 9-10 rival Quince Orchard 61-53.

Coach Robert Smith rested many of his starters as they prepared for Friday’s (tonight’s) match up with cross town rival 14-5 Seneca Valley. Seneca will be looking for payback after the Jags beat them by six back on December 15.

On Tuesday, the Jags jumped out early in the first quarter scoring 17 points and hold WJ to just nine points in the opening period of the game. They opened up the lead in the second with a 21 point quarter, thanks in large part to Marcus Stubbs two shots from beyond the arc to send the Jags to halftime up 39 to 22 over Walter Johnson.

The Jags were led by junior Tyrone Mayer, with 18 points on eight field goals and shot two-for-two from the foul line. Northwest had three players in double-digits, and two scoring nine points. Senior Adrian Thomas finished with 14 points, sophomore Marcus Stubbs added 13 points, while Seniors Kolbey Woodard and Norval Black added nine points each.

However, the most satisfying points of the night were probably put up by senior TJ Williams who returned to the court after suffering a torn ACL injury. Williams had five points, one field goal and a three-pointer.

WJ was led by Johnathan Neuman, who had 18 points on four field goals, three 3-balls, and a foul shot.
