Lady Coyotes Fall to Gaithersburg
In a rematch of two of the top girls’ basketball teams in the county, the Gaithersburg Trojans bested the Lady Coyotes 54-45 on Friday night in Clarksburg. The victory evened the season meetings between the two teams at 1-1. The loss was just the second by the Lady Coyotes this season, they fell to 14-2, while Gaithersburg improved to 11-5 after the victory.
Gaithersburg was led by senior Jordan Odom, who had 26 points on seven field goals, two three-pointers, and shot six-for-seven from the foul line. It was Odom’s 10 points in the third quarter which spurred the Ladies of Troy past the Coyotes. Gaithersburg scored 18 in the third, after trailing 26-24 at halftime to take a 42-37 lead into the final quarter.
Odom had help from freshman Morgan Brogden who added 19 points, including four shots from beyond the arc, one field goal and shot five-for-seven from the charity stripe.
The Coyotes were led by sophomore Trinity Klock who scored 20 points on seven field goals was a perfect six-for-six from the foul line all in in the fourth-quarter. She accounted for all eight of Clarksburg’s points in the fourth-quarter.
Senior Sunny Paul added 10 points. However, she went down with a serious knee injury with 2:13 left in the game. The senior who three field goals, one three-pointer, and shot one-of-two from the line, and was a rebounding force all game had to be carried from the court.
The Coyotes will travel to face 7-8 Wootton tonight (Monday) and will play at 8-5 Damascus on Friday night, February 2. Gaithersburg will host at unbeaten Richard Montgomery team tonight at 7:00 pm. The Lady Rockets are 15-0 this season.
