MTA Warns of Limited Parking at Germantown MARC Station Due to Repairs

January 24, 2018

The Maryland Transit Administration is warning commuters using the Germantown MARC Train station that there will be less parking spaces at the parking lot, which is already over capacity on daily basis because of repair work.

The work is expected to take two weeks, as a result several parking spaces will be un-useable and on set of stairs to the platform will be closed.

“Due to emergency repairs to correct a sinkhole on the westbound platform, construction crews need to stage equipment in the bus parking area at the top of the stairs on the eastern parking lot,” said a statement on the Maryland Transit Administration website. “This will require several parking spaces to be taken for the next two weeks and only one stairwell will be open at a time. In addition, all trains, both east and westbound, will stop on the platform closest to the station building.”

MTA warns that cars parked illegally will be towed. “We understand that parking is already limited at Germantown and recognize that this will cause further inconvenience. MARC Train customers should plan their commute accordingly. Cars parked illegally will be ticketed and are subject to being towed,” said the website.

To make room for the repair equipment, the RideOn bus boarding location will be temporarily relocated adjacent to the pedestrian overpass in the western parking lot on the westbound platform side.

“We appreciate your patience while our contractors work as quickly and safely as possible to repair the westbound platform,” said the MTA.

The administration is asking commuters to consider some alternatives:

   • Drive to Metropolitan Grove station (address: 30 Metropolitan Court, Germantown, MD).  All Brunswick Line trains stop at Metropolitan Grove and there is ample available parking.  Tickets to/from Germantown are always honored at Metropolitan Grove.

   • RideOn Route 94 operates from Clarksburg to Germantown station. This is a dedicated bus scheduled to meet five morning trains and eight evening trains. Note that buses will wait for late trains and that MARC weekly and monthly passholders ride Route 94 (and all RideOn buses) for free.

   • RideOn Route 83 operates from Holy Cross Germantown Hospital to various points around Germantown, including the Germantown Bus Transit Center, on to the MARC station.  Again, rides are free for MARC weekly and monthly passholders.
