After helping Louisiana Tech Bulldog’s basketball team to a home weekend sweep, forward Anthony Duruji was voted as the Conference USA Freshman of the Week.
Duruji averaged 17.5 points per game while shooting 60 percent from the field and 50 percent from beyond the arc in the victories over North Texas and Rice inside the Thomas Assembly Center. He also averaged 6.5 rebounds and 2.0 blocks per game.
The Germantown native had a career night this past Thursday against North Texas. He registered a career-high 25 points, including hitting two free throws with 0.9 seconds remaining to help LA Tech win, 66-65. He also tied his career high in boards (seven) and rejections (three).
The freshman, who played high school ball at St. Andrews Episcopal School in Potomac, turned around and had an efficient game on Saturday, recording 10 points, six rebounds and a career-high four assist in the 69-54 victory over the Rice Owls.
This marks the first ever Freshman of the Week award for Duruji and the first Bulldog to receive a weekly honor this season.
