Cross Ridge Way Murder Victim Identified as Germantown Man
UPDATE: At 12:03 pm on Friday, January 5, 2018 the Montgomery County Police issued a correction to the press release which identified the victim of Wednesday's homicide in Germantown. The homicide victim’s name has been corrected to Maurice Cortez Mercer.
The victim in Wednesday’s homicide in a townhouse in Germantown has been identified as 30-year-old Maurice Cortez Mercer, according to Montgomery County Police.
Detectives continue to investigate the murder of Cortez which took place in an apartment building in the 12500 block of Cross Ridge Way in Germantown. The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner has ruled his death as a homicide by gunshot wound.
On Wednesday, Jan. 3 at approximately 3:51 p.m., 5th District officers responded to a home in the 12500 block of Cross Ridge Way for the report of a suspicious situation. First responders located Cortez deceased in the residence from an apparent gunshot wound.
Cortez was a resident of the same unit block, but police have not released if Cortez was found shot to death in the unit where he lived, or another townhouse on the block.
This is the second homicide in Germantown in 30 days. On December 16, first responders found 18-year-old Andrew Douglas Turner shot to death in his apartment in the 12900 block of Falling Water Circle in Germantown. Police have not said if the two incidents are connected.
