Three Rescued from Icy Waters by MCFRS in Boyds

There is a portion of West Old Baltimore Road in Boyds that sits about a mile-and-a-quarter west of Clarksburg Road, and it can be dangerous to cross on warm summer days — especially without a heavy-duty off-road vehicle. At this point, West Baltimore Road is traversed by Ten Mile Creek. It is not super deep, but it is deep enough to be dangerous even with it is partially frozen. According to fire officials, late Monday night on December 1, Montgomery County Fire Rescue Service units were called to this location to rescue three people who had attempted to drive through the partially frozen stream in their sedan. The car became stuck in the icy waters, and MCFRS units were called at about 11:00 pm on New Years Day to perform a frigid water rescue as temps dipped to around 10 degrees, with wind chills at 0 degrees.

A MCFRS Swift Water Rescue teams deployed a boat to extricate the three occupants of the car. All three were evaluated by EMS. They were very cold but uninjured.
