Coyotes Extinguish Blazers in Road Victory

The Clarksburg Coyotes headed south on Monday to play the Montgomery Blair Blazers and redeem themselves after dropping Friday’s game to Watkins Mill. The Coyotes wanted to get back their winning ways, and they were able to get the “dub” in a 68-57 victory thanks in large part to three double-digit offensive performances from three seniors.
Seniors Diven Wallington, Raemond Thompson, and Stephen Armstrong were all in double-digits for scoring. Wallington had 13, Thompson 10, and Armstrong finished with 19 to lead all scorers.
The Coyotes came out shooting hot, scoring 23 points in the first quarter, fueled by Wallington’s three 3-balls in the opening stanza. He had 10 of the 13 points in the first quarter. The Blazers could only find the hoop for nine points in the first but opened up for 12 points in the second quarter. The Coyotes kept the offense rolling by scoring 14 in the second.
Clarksburg took a 37-30 lead into halftime.

Blair had two players in double-digits and was led by William Tawamba with 15 points. Ethan Ellis had 13 points in the game.
Blair put pressure on Clarksburg in the third, allowing the Coyotes to score just eight points, but Clarksburg was able to continue to apply the offensive pressure in the fourth quarter scoring 23 points. The fourth quarter scoring was spurred by Armstrong’s four field goals on his way to 19 points. In all the senior shot eight field goals, and free throw.
Senior Cornell Hanna pitched in with eight points to help the Coyotes effort.

The win helps Clarksburg keep pace with the top teams in Montgomery County with a record of 4-1. The Coyotes will travel to 5-0 Springbrook tonight, (Wednesday, Dec. 20.) The Blue Devils are coming off a close 65-62 victory over Richard Montgomery on Monday. Springbrook has wins over Whitman, Blake, B-CC, and Watkins Mill.
On the girls’ side, the Lady Coyotes continued their unbeaten march through Montgomery County with a 65-56 victory over Blair on Monday night. The Lady Coyotes are 5-0 and will host Springbrook on tonight; tipoff is at 7:15 pm Wednesday night.
